WCC Book Club - North

The WCC Book Club - North held an organizational meeting on September 17 to pick a book for the first discussion meeting. After this long hot, very dry summer, we chose Cadillac Desert by Marc Reisner, the seminal book about water issues. Although published first in the 1980s, Cadillac Desert remains a very relevant and thorough discussion of western water issues. Water laws and distribution of river water in the west has not changed since the book was published, but the headwaters states have become hotter and drier so water resource access for agricultural and municipal use across the region is even more challenging.

We will meet Sunday October 23 at 1 pm at the home of Mary Bartholomay Raynolds  ’74 (12384 Oxford Road, Longmont, 80504) to discuss the book. Hope to see as many of you as can make it!

Send Mary an e-mail using this linmary.raynolds@gmail.comk to RSVP.

Dues 2016-17:

Dues-paying members receive benefits throughout the year including a printed directory, a formal name-tag at events, and reduced admission to several events.  Dues allows WCC to host multiple events over the course of the year as well as build up a scholarship fund for current Wellesley College students from Colorado.

Cost: $25 ($10 for Classes '12 to '16)

There are two ways to pay your dues:

1-    You can pay your 2016-17 dues electronically by completing this google form (a member of the WCC Board will then send you a paypal link to complete your transaction).

2-   You can pay your 2016-17 dues by sending a check made out to Wellesley Club of Colorado to:

Sarah Ohle Leibrandt, WCC Treasurer

494 Briggs Place, Superior, CO 80027

If you’d like to sponsor a Book Award to recognize a high school junior girl, include that information in the google form or an additional $25 in your check, for the cost of the book.  You can also sponsor a “winter care package” for a current Colorado student at Wellesley for a $10 donation.  These are sent just before finals period fall semester.

Every woman can—and should—make a meaningful contribution to her world. There is a growing recognition that women's empowerment and leadership are crucial to their own advancement, and to worldwide societal change. Wellesley and its alumnae have supported and championed women's intellectual and social development and autonomy for over 100 years.
