Wellesley Club of Colorado Spring 2017 Update

Wellesley Club of Colorado

[first_name] -

Here are the updates from the March 11, 2017 Board Meeting:

Admitted Students Event:

Sarah Ohle Leibrandt ’07 will host the reception for admitted students and their families on Saturday, April 22nd from 2 – 4 pm.  The Alumnae Admission Representatives will make the arrangements and invite alumnae from the recent classes.  A panel discussion of alumnae from various majors and with study-abroad experience will be coordinated for our guests.  If you graduated after 2004 and would like to participate on the panel, contact Karen Kralios ’90 to volunteer.

A Faculty Speaker will be coming from Wellesley College on May 13th.  Professor Anastasia Karakasidou from the Anthropology Department will be speaking on The Refuge Crisis in Europe, emphasizing the experience of the inhabitants of the island of Lesbos where the refugees land.

The lecture will be at the Lakewood Library at 10200 W. 20th Avenue, Lakewood, CO (near Colfax and Kipling).

More information about time and reservations will be provided shortly, but be sure this is on your calendar. You won’t want to miss this!

Dushanbe Teahouse Brunch in Boulder

Our annual brunch at the Dushanbe Teahouse is scheduled for June 25th at 9:30 am.  Costs and menus for registration will be published soon, but be sure this is on your calendar.

August Picnic

The annual picnic for new and returning students and their families will be Saturday, August 5th from 11:30 am – 2 pm at Mary Raynolds ’74 home in Longmont, CO.  All alumnae are invited.  It’s always fun to send the students off for the new year and to gather with your alumnae friends.

Book Signing

Melinda Ponder ’66 is launching a book, Katherine Lee Bates: From Sea to Shining Sea, in August and plans to come to Colorado in late September for book signings in Denver and Colorado Springs, since Pikes Peak was the inspiration for America the Beautiful.    http://www.melindaponder.com/

The Wellesley Club of Colorado is planning a celebration in conjunction with  this event.  As soon as we have the date, we’ll send out detailed information.

Melinda Ponder is a friend of Phyllis Knight ’66 in our Wellesley Club.

Our AAR (Alumnae Admission Representatives) have been busy with over eleven interviews for prospective students this year.  We have been notified of three early admissions.  And we anxiously await the admissions from Colorado for the rest of the Class of 2021.

Membership Dues Information:

Your local board decided to follow the lead of other Wellesley clubs and send a donation of $1 from your dues to Wellesley College in your name.  This small amount from our budget will support the college by increasing the percentage of alumnae giving to the college.  If you don’t want this $1 contribution to go to the college, you may opt out simply by telling the treasurer when you send in your dues.

If you join between now and July 1, your annual dues will cover fifteen months – until June 30, 2018.

Payment OPTIONS:

The Wellesley Club of Colorado is pleased to announce that dues and registration payments will be easier for many of us.  Club dues cover expenses of activities, Book Awards, a printed copy of the Directory, and a donation from the Club to the College or the Student Aid Society.

To pay online: To pay your dues online with a credit or debit card, please send an email to Sarah Leibrandt (WCC Treasurer) at:

Every woman can—and should—make a meaningful contribution to her world. There is a growing recognition that women's empowerment and leadership are crucial to their own advancement, and to worldwide societal change. Wellesley and its alumnae have supported and championed women's intellectual and social development and autonomy for over 100 years.
